The Round Square is a global association of more than 260 like-minded schools from all 6
continents of the world who believe in the concept of education for character-building as
enunciated by the educational ideology of Kurt Hahn that stands on six Pillars, Principles or
IDEALS, namely, Internationalism, Democracy, Environmental Stewardship, Adventure,
Leadership, and Service.
With its headquarters in the UK, Round Square orchestrates a wide range of activities for both
students and teachers revolving around the six IDEALS in the form of conferences, meetings,
service camps, online meetings/conferences, and various other initiatives. Round Square
Discovery Framework (RSDF) was discovered, developed, and launched in all member schools
about a decade ago.
In addition to the significance of six IDEALS in the holistic concept of an ideal education for
school children, it was perceived that in the course of their education in a Round Square school,
children also made some significant ‘discoveries’ in the process of their experiential learning.
These discoveries are Appreciation of Diversity, Courage, Commitment to Sustainability,
Communication, Compassion, Inquisitiveness, Inventiveness, Problem-Solving, Self-Awareness,
Sense of Responsibility, Teamwork, and Tenacity.
