14 STUDENTS OF KCPS TREK TO SAACH PASS

14 students of classes 9 and 10 of KC Public School trekked to Saach Pass in district Chamba of Himachal Pradesh on June 3 and 4. The trek was organized by the school as an adventure journey in fulfillment of the requirement for the Bronze Award under the International Award for Young People (IAYP) programme for which these students are registered in the current academic session. They were accompanied by Dr. Ram Thakur, Ajay Thappa, Sangeeta Jain and Rajni Dubey as Award Leaders.
On June 3, they trekked from Bairagarh to Devikothi, covering a distance of 6 KM. It was an acclimatization trek in preparation for the next day’s trek to Saach Pass at an altitude of 14500 ft. Saach Pass is one of the toughest passes in the Pir Panjal range that leads to the tribal Pangi Valley situated along the river Chandra Bhaga (known as Chenab in J&K). Due to paucity of snow this year, the pass opened for light vehicular traffic on June 2 and made it possible for the trekkers from KCPS to reach it by their school mini bus at 11 a.m. on the morning of June 4. After spending an hour on the pass, the students trekked back to Satrundi at an altitude of 11000 ft, covering a distance of 5 KM. On the way down, they studied the glacial system and the sparse flora at that altitude. They took numerous pictures of the location to submit written reports on their adventure journey undertaken to qualify for the Bronze Award.
The students who completed the trek were Reha Krishan, Sanchita Bakshi, Lakshita Gandotra, Jahanvi Gupta, Shrishti Mahajan, Mitali Gupta, Sambhavi Gupta, Vinayak Trackoo, Parv Atri, Prajwal Sharma, Divyansh Pratap, Ayush Jamwal, Divyansh Mahajan and Anav Jain.
